Kusadasi – Basilica of St. John Round-Trip Transfer
You will be met at Kusadasi Port or your hotel for a comfortable round-trip transfer to visit the historic Basilica of St. John near Ephesus.
Built in the 6th century AD by Emperor Justinian I on the traditional burial site of St. John the Apostle, the basilica was a major pilgrimage destination in the Byzantine Empire. St. John is believed to have spent his last years in Ephesus and was buried at this location.
The original structure was grand, featuring a cruciform plan and a dome supported by four large pillars. Over the centuries, earthquakes and invasions caused significant damage, and the basilica was eventually abandoned in the 14th century. Today, visitors can explore the ruins, including the main aisle, baptistery, columns, and foundations, while a small chapel marks the traditional burial site of St. John on the nearby hill.
The Basilica of St. John is located close to other notable sites such as the Temple of Artemis and the House of the Virgin Mary, forming part of a rich historical and cultural landscape.
